Mark did a small remodel job for us, dividing a larger room into 2 rooms. It involved having to split the recessed lighting, heating duct, etc. as well as building the wall/closet, etc. He explained to us what would be involved, gave options for how aspects of it could be done, and gave a good estimate ahead of time. While doing the work, Mark was amazingly accommodating around our work/ sleep patterns (baby nap time, etc.) and continued the work the next week while we were away on a trip. He kept us updated on progress. The finished work was great, and the cost came in under the estimate. We will be using him again when we get to the next project in mind.

I hired a carpenter whose work was artful, but who rarely showed up when he said he would, and when he did, I had to rent equipment for him. My project, which was to become the Whidbey Island Writer’s Refuge, languished. Finally, I called Mark Kohlhaas. Mark swooped in like a superhero. He always showed up when he said he would, had all the tools he needed, was resourceful in suggesting solutions to problems, had a collaborative working style, was cost-conscious, did great work, and got the job done. Mark is my hero–two thumbs up!

We live in a little house that has had to expand with our growing family. When we had our first child, we called on Mark to build a shed in which we could store all the things that had been in the baby’s room. The job was accomplished in less than a week and included creative touches. When we had our second child, Mark combined two rooms so the babies could have a larger area in which to play. The beam and finish work were excellent and have since become a talking point for all our guests. After our third baby, Mark split a large bedroom into two children’s rooms. He also remodeled our kitchen by putting in new lower cabinets, counter tops, outlets, a sink, and a dishwasher. We recently had our fourth child and are considering what we should ask Mark to do next. He does outstanding work in a timely manner, and always treats his customers right.
